Halloween Marathon!!
There's just a few videotapes left to get through, so we marathon all night long on this the spookiest day! We had a lot of scares and a lot of fun this October. Thanks for joining everyone!
Featuring: Deadstream (FF), REC (FF), The Ruins (Vacation), Dr. Who: Blink (TV), Terror Train (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles), Jeepers Creepers (Autos), Last Voyage of the Demeter (Vampire)

Oct 30th
9:30pm | Evil Dead Rise (2023), The Pope's Exorcist (2023) | R |
Best of 2023 Horror: Part II!! DEMON EDITION!! An Evil Dead Rise Revisit for anybody who missed it or just plain craves more demon mommy mayhem! And then probably my favorite movie of the year. You know his work. He's done over 1000 exorcisms! He rides a scooter! You can find him partying in the catacombs of the Vatican... it's Italian Russell Crowe vs. The Catholic Devil!! Can Father Crowe save us from Monster Mommy?? We'll see, it's the Best of 2023!!
Starring: Mirabai Pease, Richard Crouchley, Anna-Maree Thomas, Lily Sullivan, Noah Paul, Russell Crowe, Daniel Zovatto, Alexandra Essoe, Franco Nero

Oct 29th
9:30pm | Cocaine Bear (2023), Talk to Me (2023) | R |
It's the Best of 2023: Part I!! A special event night so new it hasn't even happened yet! On these last couple spooky nights leading up to Halloween, we'll recap our favorite horror movies of the year. We haven't actually seen Talk to Me yet, cuz it just came to the video store this week, but all sources I've heard seems to agree it'll qualify. That's a spooky disembodied hand deal with an interesting idea of dumb teens using conjuring and possession as a sort of drug. What could go wrong? And of course the other one's about Cocaine Bear... who like ya know, does Cocaine Bear stuff and is just great!
Starring: Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Ray Liotta, Ari McCarthy, Sophie Wilde, Marcus Johnson, Hamish Phillips, Sarah Brokensha

Oct 27th
10:00pm | Crawl (2019) | R |, The Host (2006) | R |
It's a Friday Night Midnight Double Creature Feature!! First up, we have a little monster appetizer in this Alexandre Aja Alligator romp. A woman tries to rescue her dad in a category 5 hurricane, only to get stuck in the flooding house... with a killer GATOR! AHHHH! It's actually really good stuff. Short, suspenseful and scary.
And for the main event, it's a movie that never fails to make it into the October lineup, one of the greatest monster movies of all time, The Host!! In Seoul, a little girl gets swiped by a surprise river monster and dragged into the sewer system, so her family bands together to go and save her. This movie seriously has it all - laughs, scares, tears, family bonding, a message about how we're fucking up the Earth that isn't too in your face, friggin' archery and shit. Everything. You're gonna love it!
Starring: Kaya Scodelario, Barry Pepper, Morfydd Clark, Ross Anderson, Song Kang-ho, Doona Bae, Ko Asung, Byun Hee-Bong, Park Hae-il

Oct 24th
9:30pm | Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016) | PG-13 |, The Conjuring (2013) | R |
Ghosts. What are ya gonna do? Well, first of all, don't try and call 'em up for an afternoon cuppa. Sheesh, leave them fuckers alone if they're not already bothering you. And maybe that's the problem tonight... LEAVE THE GHOSTS ALONE! Opening and closing doors, whatever. Possessing my children, sure fine. Turning on lights and messing with the thermostat, WHOA WHOA WHOA... now you're fucking with my electric bill. Time to call Ed and Lorraine Warren for some good ol' exorcising fun!
These are both modern horror masterpieces set in the 60s-70s. James Wan kinda spun inward on himself creating a Conjuring Universe that's hit and miss. Mike Flanagan branched out to do some of my favorite horror of the last few decades. But these two entries are both absolute spooktacular must-sees!
Starring: Elizabeth Reaser, Lulu Wilson, Annalise Basso, Henry Thomas, Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Shanley Caswell, Joey King, Mackenzie Foy

Oct 23rd
10:00pm | M3GAN (2022) | UR |, Trick 'r Treat (2006) | R |
Maniac Monday: The Kids Are Not Alright!!
AI, is it ever a good thing? About as often as killer kids, I can tell you that. Combine the two and BAM, it's a spooky goodtime monday. M3GAN was gonna go on best of 2023 night, but it's technically from last year. Creepy robot doll, murder murder all day long, its all these damn AI's think about!
Our second film is a fun Halloween anthology, probably the best. Anna Paquin is a Little Red Riding Hood, Sam is a creepy bookend psycho trick-r-treater, Dylan Baker is somehow not the psycho-est pyscho, Brian Cox thinks he's better than everyone else but lowers himself to doing McDonalds commercials... wait no that's something else. All the other stuff though.
Starring: Allison Williams, Violet McGraw, Ronny Chieng, Amie Donald, Anna Paquin, Brian Cox, Dylan Baker, Quinn Lord, Rochelle Aytes

Oct 22nd
10:00pm | Shadow in the Cloud (2020), Maximum Overdrive (1986) | R |
So this first film is short, but like two in one - part tense, clausterphobic character study, part absolute bonkers action/horror girl-power popcorn flick. There's a chance we'll just forget this ever happened as a movie-going society, but I think an equal shot at it becoming a cult classic.
Speaking of bonkers cult classics... it's Maximum Overdrive! Where the writer/director was on so much cocaine he doesn't even remember making this (or he'd rather forget). The machines, they're coming to life cuz of a comet, and they're pissed at us! Goblin-headed self-driving murder semi? I'll take that and a coke to the balls! It's Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!
Starring: Chloe Grace Moretz, Nick Robinson, Beulah Koale, Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, Laura Harrington, Yeardley Smith, John Short

Oct 20th
11:00pm | Slither (2006) | R |
It's one of my favorite movies of all time! I feel like I say that a lot in October, but really this one's up there! It's got it all! Telepathic alien blob-horror slug monsters impregnating and incorporating smalltownsfolk into flesh-eating zombie-bot tentacles of cronenbergian bath salts-induced nightmare fuel... Nathan Fillion.
No, I guess that's about it. It's hilarious, it's gross, it's The Friday Night Midnight Movie!!
Starring: Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Rooker, Tania Saulnier, Gregg Henry

Oct 17th
10:30pm | The Innkeepers (2011), The Fog (1980) | R |
Ghosts! We're getting spooky! But not too heavy, despite the R rating, these are much more spooky atmospheric ghosts... see that pun right there? We'll be having none of that! Ti West's minimalist ghost story is far better than its rating, and very effective with the tension and scares it delivers. Then a classic Carpenter with a trio of leading ladies that builds and builds to the spooky finish! This is ghost storytelling done right with neither relying on heavy special effects or gore.
Starring: Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Kelly McGillis, Adreienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Janet Leigh, John Houseman, Buck Flower

Oct 16th
9:30pm | Horns (2013), The Amityville Horror (2005) | R |
Ohhh, we've got some Maniacs to deal with! Alexandre Aja directs this genre-bending story apparently written by Stephen King's son, who looks creepily like his dad, but writes for the screen really well. Horror murder mystery with a little bit of Milton mixed in. Danielle Radcliffe grows horns after his girlfriend is murdered in the small town they live in. It's... a little more complicated than that, but I'm trying to end as many sentences as possible in prepositions to drive some one person crazy, so there's that.
Then we've got a man possessed by a house? By the former resident's ghost? By an ancient burial ground curse? I dunno man, but check out Ryan Reynolds' abs! It's Maniac Monday with a devil twist!
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Juno Temple, Max Minghella, Kelli Garner, Heather Graham, Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George, Chloe Grace Moretz, Phillip Baker Hall

Oct 15th
9:00pm | Christine (1983), Train to Busan (2016) | R |
It's Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Night!! And oh boy, have we got a double feature doozy! First up, one of the better Stephen King horror adaptations, mostly due to John Carpenter helming and being able to deliver subtle tension and genuine creepiness to even such a seemingly idiotic premise. Yes it's a killer car, and yes it's scary, dammit!
Then we have one of the best action/horror movies ever made. THE best? Maybe. Probably. This zombie film out of Korea is just so non-stop awesome it can be hard to catch your breath. Seriously, it will make you laugh, cry, grip your seat or loved one, and appreciate the zombie genre again! Don't miss this amazing film!
Starring: Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Harry Dean Stanton, Christine Belford, Kelly Preston, Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Su-an Kim

Oct 10th
9:00pm | Happy Death Day (2017), Happy Death Day 2U (2019) | PG-13 |
The girl in this is named Tree, and I'm not sure what to do with that really. Is that a name that I just don't know about? Will it be addressed in the movie? Anyway, this is like Groundhog Day with murder. Tree has to keep living the day of her murder over and over until she can finally identify the killer. I've heard great things about this indie horror/comedy! I guess it's safe to assume the second one is a different day? Otherwise, the first can't be very satisfying. Imagine if Bill Murray was still out there stuck in that time loop. Come to think of it, he has just been kinda Bill Murray since the 90s...
Starring: Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Charles Aitken, Sarah Yarkin, Rachel Matthews, Jason Bayle, Phi Vu

Oct 9th
11:00pm | Scream (2022), Scream VI (2023) | R |
Maniac Monday!! Ghostface is on the loose again 25 years after the original Scream, and man do these people age well. Why did they call Scream 5 just "Scream"? No idea, probably some marketing nonsense, but here we are. Two new Screams after what I can only imagine was a mediocre MTV series. I dunno, I haven't seen anything on there since Carson Daly was rockin' the vote (sorry, to our northern friends, that's our version of Ed the Sock). I also haven't seen these Screamses! How meta are they gonna be? So overly meta even this arbitrary Example Zebra could loop around probably? Stop that old platitude! We don't have time for this, there's a killer on the loose!
Starring: Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega, Skeet Ulrich, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown

Oct 8th
9:00pm | Snakes on a Plane (2006), Midnight Meat Train (2008) | R |
A brand new category for HHN '23: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles!! As a conversation the other day made me realize I know way more of these horror movies than I could possibly stuff in an overhead bin. So tonight, we have the modern camp classic full of writhing, wriggling, ridiculously varied cargo creatures. (A couple different species sure, you could sneak a snek or two, but you'll see what I mean... if it slithers, it made its way on this flight!)
And for the late show, a truly brutal and disgusting film with Bradley Cooper that somehow isn't Aloha. What starts as a slasher on a train premise may also devolve into some writhing masses... not for the squeamish!
Starring: SLJ, Julianna Margulies, Nathan Phillips, Rachel Blanchard, Kenan Thompson, Lin Shaye, Bradley Cooper, Vinnie Jones, Brooke Shields, Leslie Bibb, Tony Curran, Ted Raimi

Oct 6th
11:00pm | Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010) | R |
A group of college friends plan a weekend away at a mountain resort, only to be met with horrifying and gruesome attacks from a couple of backwoods hillbilly psychos. Thing is... these hillbillies ain't killers at all! And this typical horror trope heavy movie is told from the "killers" perspective as these dang college kids just keep killing themselves all over their property! This is one of my favorite movies, it's just so good and so funny. And it's the Friday Night Midnight Movie!!
Starring: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden, Jesse Moss, Phillip Granger

Oct 3rd
9:00pm | Ginger Snaps (2000), Ginger Snaps 2 (2004) | R |
Werewolves!! And not just any werewolves... lady werewolves. Maybe I'm just me and stuck with my own thoughts most of the time, but I've always wondered why there hasn't been a bigger presence in pop culture of the lady werewolf. It seems like a pretty obvious correlation to draw for storytelling purposes, but again, I'm just simple and can't be blamed for my lack of knowledge on menses. Don't all women transform into some terrible monster with the phases of the moon? Shouldn't I just shut up and never say menses again here? These questions and more, on tonight's Double Creature Feature!!
Starring: Katharine Isabelle, Emily Perkins

Oct 2nd
9:00pm | Halloween (2018), Nightmare on Elm St (1984) | R |
Maniac Monday!! We're gonna start out with a remake of Halloween. Or is it not a remake? Is it a sequel with the same name as the original? Cuz JLC is in this as Laurie Strode... I dunno, I guess we'll find out! Then we are gonna watch the first Nightmare (which is not its own sequel remake that was made in 2010), just cuz it's required October viewing. Careful on your way to the drive-in, there's supernatural killers on the loose!
Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle, Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, John Saxon, Lin Shaye

Oct 1st
9:00pm | Evil Dead (2013), Evil Dead Rise (2023) | R |
Spooktober is here, and so is HHN '23!! Sooo to kick off the month, eyyyy, why not?!! One of the scariest movies I've seen and its new sibling movie I haven't seen yet, but been saving for this very spookiest of times! I have a feeling "sibling" movie is probably in bad taste for this one, but I haven't seen it, so how could I have known better?? For anybody who hasn't been to Halloween Horror Nights before, welcome in! It's our favorite time of year, and all things spooky rule the stream! Friendly reminder that all streams are 18+ regardless of rating. Let the Spooks begin! LesssGOOOO!!
Starring: Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas, Lou Taylor Pucci, Elizabeth Blackmore, Mirabai Pease, Richard Crouchley, Anna-Maree Thomas, Lily Sullivan, Bruce Campbell
